"STAR WARS: EPISODE II - ATTACK OF THE CLONES" 10th Anniversary
Today marks the 10th anniversary of the fifth STAR WARS movie called "STAR WARS: EPISODE II - ATTACK OF THE CLONES". In acknowledgement of this milestone, I have posted this article written by a guy named Lard Biscuit called "The Shroud of the Dark Side". Perhaps some of you have already read it. If not, enjoy.

RP Partner?

Hey there.
I'm not entirely sure how many people watch this community still (and even less sure how many of you role-play), but I thought I'd give this a shot!
Anakin & Padmé are one of my absolute favourite couples. Sad, sweet and complex. Though I haven't played Anakin on an online rp (either via IM or LJ/DW) in a long time, I was recently bitten by the urge to pick him up again! I would of course really love to play against a Padmé, either via IM in a private story, or on a Dreamwidth role-playing community.
If there's anyone who has an old Padmé muse that they miss playing with (or, a new one that they'd like to test out!), please let me know. I'd be happy to either plot with you, or link you to a few DW games that might be fun.
Hope someone as crazy for these two as I am is up for this! ♥
Thanks, guys! Stay well.

Anakin/Padme's friendship in The Phantom Menace

Something I don't often hear discussed is Anakin/Padme's friendship in The Phantom Menace. We know they fell in love in The Attack of the Clone Wars, but I think their friendship, however short, from TPM is forgotten. So, I have to ask: How do you think their relationship in TPM affected their later relationship as lovers? For example, I think it may have helped Padme further understand Anakin's fear of losing Shmi because in TPM she met Shmi and knew what a kind, loving person and mother she was. What do you think?

The symbolism of the japor snippet

I've already discussed the symbolism of the japor snippet a little in my personal journal, but I feel the need to elaborate on it...

Anyways, we all know how Anakin gave Padme the japor snippet as a good luck charm in TPM. Unfortunately, it wasn't in AOTC, but most Anakin/Padme fans were glad to see it show up again in ROTS. In ROTS, Padme on her death bed says that there is still good in Anakin. Padme was also buried with the japor snippet. However, something was left out of the movie. You see, in the ROTS novelization she was holding the japor snippet as she said there was still good in him:
Padme reached across with her free hand, with the hand she had laid upon the brow of her firstborn son, and pressed something into Obi Wan's palm. For a moment, her eyes cleared, and she knew him. "Obi wan...there...is still good in him. I know there is...still.." Her voice faded to an empty sigh, and she sagged back against the pillow. Half a dozen different scanners buzzed with conflicting alarm tones, and the medical droids shooed him from the room.
He stood in the hall outside, looking down at what she had pressed inro his hand. It was a pendant of some kind, an amulet, unfamilar sigils carved in some sort of organic material, strung on a loop of leather. In the Force, he could feel traces of the touch of her skin.
I think there was a reason why Padme gave Obi Wan the japor snippet as she declared there was still good in Anakin. Remember, he gave her the japor snippet a long time ago, when he was still an innocent boy untainted by the Dark Side. So, to her, the japor snippet symbolises Anakin's innocence, and she basically believes that the same innocent boy who'd gave her that japor snippet is still somewhere deep in Anakin's heart. Anakin was no longer literally a boy in ROTS, but Padme knew that underneath all his darkness, the same goodness that he possessed as a nine year old slave boy remained in his heart which is why she never completely lost faith in him.

Something that Anakin/Padme fans often complain about how the family scenes where Anakin and Padme go to the Naberries were deleted from AOTC. And to be honest, so am I. In the AOTC novelization, Anakin thinks about how much he likes her family, and Anakin gets along pretty well with the Naberries in both the movie and novelization. It's such a shame---these scenes show the more lighter aspects of Anakin/Padme's relationship, shows Padme's developing feelings for Anakin, and reveals some of Padme's past. I also like how instead of getting caught in that droid place as they did in the movie before getting arrested(whatever it's called) Padme instead confronted Dooku here. I think that's a lot more in character for her.

When Anakin said "someone wise" who was he really talking about?

We all know that during the meadow scene when Anakin and Padme were discussing politics, Anakin said that he thought all people should be made to agree. When Padme asked him who should make them agree, Anakin comfirmed that he said it wasn't he who should do that, but rather "someone wise." When Anakin said that, most people---including myself---assumed that he was talking about Palpatine. But what if he was actually talking about Padme? I mean, in ROTS, he wants to overthrow Palpatine so he and Padme could rule. Furthermore, in the AOTC novelization, he says this: - "The people you served thought you did a good job," Anakin reminded her. "I heard they tried to amend the constitution so that you could stay in office."
So basically, Anakin would have liked it if Padme stayed not just a politician, but a Queen. He wishes that she would have ruled Naboo even longer. The fact that Padme ruled a planet, I believe, would make it easier for Anakin to envision her as a ruler of the galaxy as well. What do you think?

Anakin and Padme are two halves of the same whole.
[24 Sep 2011|12:07pm] |

We know that Anakin and Padme have many differences. In some ways, they may seem to be total opposites---she's a queen, he's a slave; she is water, and he is fire. But then I think about this quote from the ROTS novelizatioin:
"I love you, Anakin. I am yours, in life, and in death, wherever you go, what ever you do, we will always be one. Never doubt me, my love. I am yours." - Padme
The part that sticks out to me is the we will always be one part, which is why I bolded it. You see, Padme seems to think of her and Anakin not as seperate beings, but as two halves of the same whole; two sides of the same soul. And in a way, it makes sense. They aren't pure opposites, and do have some things in common. However, their differences also make them complement each other in a way.
The difference between being opposites and complementary is that when two people are opposites, it means that they don't have anything in common. But with people who complement each other, such as Anakin, who resembles fire, and Padme, who resembles water, they complement each other, meaning that Anakin brings out Padme's passion, shows her there is more to life than duty, whereas Padme tames Anakin, makes him feel at peace with himself and even encourges him to do his duty at times.
A good example of Anakin influencing Padme is pretty much all of AOTC---he shows her the importance of love. And the opposite happens when Obi Wan said "What would Padme do?" when Padme fell off a ship and Anakin wanted to save her in AOTC, and Anakin replied "She would do her duty." When Anakin left her there, he put duty before love for once and it was because of his relationship with Padme.
lazypadawan has written an essay on sagajournal exploring how Anakin resembles fire, and Padme resembles water here: http://www.sagajournal.com/lpfireandwater.html
